Take your leadership to the next level with the University of Aberdeen

Organisations need effective leaders to create a clear vision and inspire teams to achieve their goals. However, aspiring or first-line managers may not have the leadership skills when starting their first management role.

This online microcredential will help you develop these skills by tackling leadership from three angles. You’ll start with personal leadership to understand your own behaviours, actions, and what leadership means to you.

Next, you’ll explore how you lead in relation to others, examining how you communicate, interact, direct, and influence. Finally, you’ll unpack leadership in context, taking an organisational view of the role your leadership plays in motivation, engagement, and team success.

Led by the University of Aberdeen’s experienced staff, this ILM approved training will help elevate your leadership capabilities. We also offer an [ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management online](https://www.futurelearn.com/microcredentials/iilm-certificate-in-leadership-and-management), designed for practising and aspiring middle managers.

Unpack different leadership styles

To help you gain a better understanding of leadership, you’ll deepen your knowledge of leadership styles and concepts.

You’ll learn how leadership styles impact teams as you unpack your own leadership qualities. Through this exercise, you’ll learn how to enhance your qualities to maximise your leadership potential and get the most from your team.

Learn how to build an effective team

A successful manager is only as good as the people around them. On this microcredential, you’ll gain the skills to build an effective team.

You’ll delve into the ways you can develop trust and communication with your team, using the Belbin Team Roles model to understand how teams benefit from diverse skills and experience.

Gain personalised feedback from a Belbin-accredited practitioner

With a solid introduction to Belbin Team Roles, you’ll then have the chance to complete a personal profile.

You’ll receive one-to-one feedback from a Belbin-accredited practitioner who will help you explore how you work as a part of a team and unlock strategies to maximise team efficiency.

Understand how to improve workplace performance

To help improve the performance within your team, you’ll get to grips with motivation theory and gain the practical skills to apply this theory in the workplace.

You’ll understand how to act as a team builder, gaining the confidence to succeed as a new leader in your organisation.
