Activity

  • The continuous learning will help in develop our skills and open new doors for us.

  • I think that the quality and the communications are the most important deeminsions of assessing the effectiveness of each member.

  • I found the financial rewards and the good feelings are too good motivations.

  • To motivate my team:
    1. Don't let them feel like restrained or always monitored.
    2. Focus on the positive aspects, not the negative ones.
    3. Encourage them and thank their deeds, even if they are too small.
To motivate myself: I can remember the benefits of the successful delivering of the project, and the joyful of that.

  • When a praticipant doesn't share the discussion, I have to encourage everybody to give his opinions and clearify the issues related with the unclear data that any participant undiscover it. Also, by giving chances to make side conversations they could provide us with critical data.

  • The emerged issues and the critical points should be on the agenda. Also, the expected crossroads should be discussed.
Every stakeholder and team member has his prefered way to invite him with, like email, phone call or maybe face to face.
Timetable should be prepared for the meeting.
The meeting should be focused, productive and lightweighted.

  • In the construction projects, which my project is one of them, monthly reporting of the project progress should be done. Also, the milestones will be considered according to the project scope and deliveries.

  • Looking forward to the next step.

  • The role of project manager will stay in controlling and monitoring, but in the execution phase he has more concerns to deal with.
The most importannt thing in this phase is to track the process to ensure it is on the right way.

  • The foundations project will take 70 days.
    The critical activities are:
    Surveying
    Digging
    Axes Surveying
    Reinforcing
    Coverage
    Pouring
The activities: (Temperory Fence - Lights) can be delayed for 38 days.

  • The construction industry has lot of potential risks. To deal with them, it requires an experiece, cunsultations from the experts and also references.

  • The chart whichi I did wasn't too big. It contains the works of surveying, digging, axises surveying, coverage, reinforcing and pouring the concrete for the foundations of the villa. It is short because the maximum duration of the file is 60 days.

  • You should know the parts that the project contains.
You should know the stages of each part.

  • The changes will affect on the project elements time, cost, scope).
The clarity of objectives will help to choose the objectives that could be terminated in case of adding some new objectives (replaceable objecitives).

  • Those objectives are some of the critical items in the villa project.
The comply to the SMART principles.
This project require a lot of clarity to deliver it successfully.

  • My project is construction project.
The scope is to build a villa, from bases till finishing works.
The project contain main building, guard building, an open parking, a covered parking, a pool, fence and some planted areas.

  • The initial perception to the project using the UCP model is:
    Uncertainty - High Risk
    Complexity - High Risk
    Pace - Medium Risk

  • I was site engineer in construction project.
What is considered as a successful aspect will be the delivering of the project at the deadline within the estimated budget and with the expected situation, because this what will make the work appears success and will avoid any legal or moral consequences.

  • Hi. I'm Mohammad Muataz hendia. I have Bachelor in civil engineering.
The industry of construction requires lot of skills in project management which are my motivations to share this kind of courses.
Thanks and please accept my regards.

  • I want to learn more about the management principles.
    Thanks for your initiative.

  • The challenges:
    1. Coordinating between labourers and contractors.
Solved by some acceptance and abondan.
    2. Surveying the materials that were brought to the project.
Solved by accounting and reviewing the statements and tables.
    3. Surveying the materials in the store.
Solved by assisting from an expert to account every item.

  • The key parameter for all stages is responsibility, which will control all stakeholders, clients and investers to do their best.

  • There should be more delving deeper to consider the availability of each plans in the construction industry.

  • The management should take care the human aspects like manners morals and safety.

  • The three parameters of the project are too important.
I would like to register and monitor any factors that could affect on these parameters, like tables, scheduling, reports and checking.

  • When I was site engineer in construction project, there was lack in funding, so the project's workflow was moving slowly although of no deadline was determined. Because of that, there was no delay on the schedule, but there was dissatisfaction from the stakeholders because of the shortage of funds they were paid. The relationships with them should be improved...

  • Once, I was site engineer in construction project.
There was lack in funding, so the project's workflow was moving slowly although of no deadline was determined. Because of that, there was no delay on the schedule, but there was dissatisfaction from the stakeholders because of the shortage of funds they were paid. The relationships with them should be...

  • Sometimes, when the time parameter is strained, the sponser or clients may require some modifications to be done. Although of that, they insist that the time is not allowed to be change. So, it will be too hard to deliver the project and the new requires within the specific time.

  • The rentalers of the delivered project will be direct stakeholders and also positive stakeholders.

  • Once, I was site engineer in a construction project. This project was complex, funded by a private owner, constructed for an industrial purposes (factories) and the building contains many producting areas.
There were project manager, site engineer (which was me), many subcontractors and labourers and also an owner for the project.

  • I'm Mohammad Muataz Hendia.
    I've Bachelor in Civil Engineering.
This is the forth course I enrolled in form Coventry University.
Hope that I could enroll in other courses.
Thanks for all these generous initiatives.

  • Thanks for hosting this course.

  • I'm looking forward to get some key elements and principles that improve my skills in project managing.

  • Hello and thanks for this course.
I think that the monitoring should be implemented for the areas (workflow - finance - informations - communications)
Any lack for these aspects and some more aspects will cause in failing of projects.

  • I'm interested in learning more about the integrated BIM projects that provide the thorough informations of the building containing all aspects through all stages.

  • The most affecting impact is the preview of the building which is predecting the final product.

  • For sure, the differances of standards between countries will cause many problems. For instance, the seismic analysing differs from static analysing, dynamic analysing or even time-scale.

  • Regulations should be issued in order of organising the BIM field.
Also, guides for BIM implementers are too important to have accurate obligation.

  • Some experts don't comply to some of the popular principles of designing and prefer to apply their own acceptable concepts, or maybe they avoid to implement the modern concepts of designing and back to the traditional concepts. Therefore, the BIM will be hard to implement, and if it is implemented, the approach will suffer from some barriers like differences...

  • The late adoption of BIM in a project will cause lacks in informations and coordinating between team.

  • Ministry of Water and Electricity - KSA
    4,000-square-meter building
It was developed by Omrania, an international architectural and engineering consultancy. They also uses BIM for engineering modeling, sustainability analysis, clash detection.

  • - Most of the executed building are suffering from lacks of information about the instalation of electricity and sanitary, and the actual steel reinforcements in the slabs and elements. In BIM, we can have the real situation for all above.
    - The diverse techniques that BIM field has will cause the experts to hesitate in using and relying on any technique....

  • The diverse techniques that BIM field has will cause the experts to hesitate in using and relying on any technique.

  • Most of the executed building are suffering from lacks of information about the instalation of electricity and sanitary, and the actual steel reinforcements in the slabs and elements. In BIM, we can have the real situation for all above.

  • I hope that some BIM platform softwares will be highlighted this week to encourage me learning them.

  • This week encourage me to develop my learnings and skills about BIM.
Also, I realise that the BIM implementing level in my region is to poor. Therefore, we should take many steps in improving this field and enhance the picture of it in our region.

  • I don't know about the first implementation of BIM in KSA.
There is limited implementing in the local firms, and it is widely appears in the foreign firms that have qualified experts.

  • The teaching of BIM principles should be widely spreaded to provide the industry by the skilled experts.

  • The effective solutions that will reduce the costs of executing the building and applying the sustainability aspects which reduce the investing costs, both are very effective on encouraging the BIM implementation, although of the added costs of the implementing.

  • The designing factors (like seismic factors and wind factors) differ from a region to another. Also, the availability of some building materials and their costs will affect on choosing the structural system of building.

  • The intelligent control of project offer integration for all aspects of management that leads to more benefits in preperation and execution phases.

  • The Policy should improve the awareness of the BIM implementation that the individuals and the organisations have.
People concern more about the BIM when they realise the benefits of BIM.
Technologies of BIM should be learned especially by the projects teams to get more involving and integrating in the industry.
Unfortunately, the BIM elements are not...

  • BIM is a process contain automating the structure information by softwares which are designing, analysing and previewing the structure to get the best design for it.

  • Great thing to do is to develop and execute a project that contains the sustainability aspects and innovations.

  • Great ideas, Matthew. I meant previously that i hadn't any entities or imdivisuals that are concerned in the sustainability field. What you had mentioned them could be applyied by any citizen.

  • Hi
I'm Civil Engineer. I'm skilled with many BIM softwares like SAFE, ETABS, REVIT and others.
I hope that I could improve my learning and get something new about the BIM field.
    Best regards

  • - The BIM will help to design any structure that will serve the social demands.
    - BIM will give the possible solutions to the structure that will reduce both the economic costs and the environment impacts.
    - BIM can give many potential designs that could be choosen to improve the landscapes and the architecture aspects.

  • I intersted by the simple way the concepts were viewed. They prompted me to delve deeper in the financial aspects in the construction industry. Hope that I could satisfy the curiosity to learn more soon.
Many thanks for all the involvers of this course.

  • I'm looking forward to participate the Financial Program from your university.
The rules that are highlighted this week are inspiring the work of accountants.

  • 1. Higher costs of materials than the predicted.
    2. More works than the predicted.
    3. Quantities were not surveyed well.

  • I was site engineer in construction project. It was so important to do the bookkeeping by preparing the financial reports that contain the invoices with tables that show the total incomes for the project and the recently paid invoices that represent the total expanditures.
These reports show the ongoing transactions in the project to show the stakeholders...

  • I want to learn more about the role of project manager in bookkeeping and monitoring the financial flows for the projects.
    Many thanks.

  • The pursuing for profit and wealth maximasation in the wrong and risky approaches will cause the insolvency. Also, the poor monitoring of the financial statue at regular periods is a great mistake.
I hope that I could take the whole financial program on your generous university, thereby I can learn more and solve any questions that could be arisen.

  • The regular reporting, continuance monitoring and appropriate responses for them should affect well in avoiding the collapse.

  • If the regular monitoring for reports is done, the stability of the company's financial health will be preserved.

  • I've site engineer in a construstion project.
The finance was important to ensure that the project is on the right track and to keep the working progress on.

  • Finance: Managing the economic activities.
Money: Currencies like Dollar, Euro, etc.
Capital: Like properties, machines, bank accounts.
    Funds: available cash.
Investment: Take many kind of economic activities to gain the funds.
This is my own understanding for the terms.

  • I know the importance of the financial management from my life experiences. Although of that, I need to learn the principles of this field generally and specially in the construction industry.

  • Thank you for your hosting.

  • I can do some modifications to the budget above, which are:
    1. Reducing the Cinema, takaways and holidays payments.
    2. Rationalizing the energy and water consumption to reduce the bills values.
    3. Increase the incomes by something that is safe to do.

  • I've participated in many courses in FutureLearn website, and those courses were briefed in notes on my computer to be looked back on my demand.

  • I'm looking forward to learn the real causes of construction firms' bankrupt and also to know the adequate approaches to manage the financial matters in the construction industry. Thank you to present this course.

  • I think that the projects with low chances of successful and benefits and the projects that have lot of lacks are the most effecting factors in insolvency.

  • The stages definition was great. Hope that I can apply them soon.
    Many thanks for this course.

  • Assessing the benefits and disadventages of the project is the main factor that impact on the decision-making for intiating the project.

  • I just did the evaluating for 3 movies that I've found them interesting for me. They are (1st,2nd,7th) movies. The ranks are:
    7. Grand Island.
    1. My life with Dalai Lama.
    2. Heidi.
The Grand Island has high potential in advance state of film
production and raising the environmental concerns.

  • The scoring method is a benefical one if the whole factors of the project included in the score summing.
I'm shocked with the sacred cow method!

  • I think that the project ends when we assure that it delivered what it is expected in appropriate way.

  • I'm lookiing forward to learn the diverse stages of projects. Hope to get benifeted from this week.

  • The iron triangle of the projects is so important and should be studied well from now on.

  • I want to develop my cummunication and leading skills. Hope that I could find any guide for this soon.

  • 1. Good communication skills.
    2. Teamwork.
    3. Good knowledge in the sciences to deal with the issues.
    4. Computer skills in the softwares that serve the industry of them.

  • The three new contraints (quality, benefits and risks) are important because they have their big impacts on the project.

  • Those activities are projects because they comply to the project expresses like they have Start and End, scheduling, teamwork, etc.

  • @BarneyWainwright The COVID-19 will cause every industry to be changed, for better I hope.

  • In my opinion, project is a chain of activities had a scheduler timing to achieve the goal of delivering the outputs or services. Many persons contribute to end the works.

  • Hi. I'm civil engineer. I want to have this course to learn some important skills that may serve me in my career live. Looking forward to be part of this course.

  • Labour's post-virus green plan revealed - on the Guardian

  • - If we declare a scale from A to E that is assessing the buildings complying on sustainable principles, the future buildings should take A or B, at the lower cases may take C. Also, the current buildings should be assessed on this scale and should be developed.
    - The educating and online learning should improve the view of all the stakeholders to help them...

  • For now, I have no one to mention in the sustainable area. Although, I wish that I would like to be an involver in this great area.

  • When the whole industry involvers be acknowledged about the sustainability results in the three areas (environment, economic and social) then they will take steps forward to achieve the requirements of sustainability and they will avoid any breaks through while they take their duties.

  • I haven't any building in my mind that has the sustainability requirements, but I like the buildings that are indicated in this review.

  • I hope that this successful test will be repeated span the world.

  • 1st factor: Make improvements for energy using so that the building will be economical for occupance.
2st factor: Providing good measures for wellbeing like tempreture, lighting, acoustics and ventilation.
These factors could be applied for any type of projects.

  • I was site engineer in a construction project. There were hard works to be done. Therefore, I think that women cannot take many roles in the industry because of that. The office works, HR and so on are works that women can be hired for.
The slavery issues are really shocked, and the industry should effective steps to avoid such an exploit manners.

  • I'm from the city. I was working in the countryside. There was some local labourers that are not educated at all. That work served them because they can't work anything that contains reading or writing anything.

  • The providing of reachable trasportation for big number of houses is one of the most important benefits the project serves. Also, the working opportunities are big valued aspect of the project.

  • There are many BIM softwares that I'm skilled on them. They provides lot of informations that give a clear preview about the building systems, and show up several ways that improve the building sustainability.

LCCA is also an useful approach to maintain the building lifecycle and providing some ideas to save energy and preserve the environment.

    SPM...

  • I've skilled on many BIM softwares like Revit, Robot, ETABS and others. BIM is such a great field that provides many important fuctions to the projects.
