It is a interesting question, I can think of several fictional spirit warrior or warrior monks, which have made there way in to popular culture....
in the TV series Kung Fu, Batman has ideas taken from Buddhism, the series Journey to the west, with the warrior sun wukong and monk Xuanzang also there is a Taoist warrior monk in the film A Chinese Ghost Story,

Having a understanding of thoughts and feelings in the present moment,
Also to slow things down,similar to The relaxation response and meditation. -

I think Japan is very good at promoting its culture (food art etc..) around the world, various areas are now into the mainstream in other countries.

My Dad collected old books, he had many bound copies of the Strand Magazine, Black and White Budget, all are late Victorian 1880s-1890s,
i have them now, i took one out to look at, they have wonderful illustations and photos from that time. -
