  • Happy to chat with you anytime, Christine :) @ChristineMalbon

  • @DianeSchofield Hi Diane! Welcome to the course :)

  • @kates Hi Kate. Thank you for your comment. I think many of us appreciate challenges that come with learning in a non-native language. You are doing very well! Please feel free to comment and provide your opinions - we are all here to learn and to support each other :)

  • @LucasCarter Very interesting points here, Lucas. Thanks for sharing! I think I do understand what you mean by 'toxic' when it comes to positivity. It is a real skill (or maybe a gift??) to be authentically positive.
I wonder what others are thinking about these concepts?

  • @ReshmaKeswani All the best with your study, Reshma!

  • @TeresaLawrence Very important point, Teresa! I wonder what others are think about 'masking' mental health issues? Could it be viewed as coping strategy?

  • @JaneCooper I appreciate your enthusiasm, Jane!

  • Spot on, Tatiana! @TatianaDimov

  • @KhushbooKansal Hi Khushboo. Not a problem at all. You do have unlimited access to the course material, but if you wish to apply for your 20 hours CPD from the RANZCP, you need to pass the test this calendar year. I hope this clarifies it for you. Let me know if you have any other questions. Tetyana

  • @ChristineMalbon Hi Christine! Thank you for your comment. As far as I can see, you are doing everything right. Looks like we just have a quieter group at this stage. Please rest assured that I am here and available if you'd like to discuss anything or have any comments or queries.

  • Hi everyone. As some of you noted, dietary assessment tools serve diverse purposes and might be useful, particularly when we are trying to broaden our food horizons (aka eating with more variety).

Going through a checklist may help to tick off essentials (for example, veggies or water).

As long as we don’t get too preoccupied and keep it applicable to...

  • Hi everybody.

Informative conversation about guidelines, thank you. I enjoyed reading recommendations from different countries, and do agree that many of these are quite similar and based around consumption of a variety of foods, particularly plant foods, such as vegetables, grain, fruit…

Good to keep in mind that dietary guidelines are just guides that...

  • Hi all!
Thanks to everyone who is taking their time to comment, answer and participate!
There is so much learning in all your comments.
I'd encourage you to support each other by replying, discussing and 'liking' comments - let's enjoy this journey together :)

  • Great reflection, Katrina @KatrinaMurrell

  • Hello everybody! What a great discussion we are having about definition of mental health. Clearly, mental health and mental unhealth does mean very different things for different people.

It is interesting how many of us appreciate the fluidity of different mental health states. Unpacking different components that attribute to mental health really...

  • Good day everyone! I am glad you all finding something to reflect upon in Professor Jacka’s discussion.
Have you had a chance to look at our AnswerGarden? Do you agree with the words highlighted so far?

  • Great recipes, thanks for sharing Reshma!

  • Hello everyone and a warm welcome to the course!

I am one of your lead educators and I am very much looking forward to the next few weeks of learning with you. A little bit about me: I am a senior researcher at the Food & Mood Centre, an educator, and a dietitian.

In this course, we will discuss various aspects of lifestyle medicine. I encourage you to...

  • @KhushbooKansal Hi Khushboo. The case snippets are provided to use as an example throughout the course. These will not be assessed - more for self-guided learning.
In terms of downloading and other IT issues, could you please refer to FeatureLearn Support (pink button on the right bottom side of your screen). Please let me know how you went.

  • @KhushbooKansal Hi Khushboo. Thanks for introducing your good self :) and welcome to the course.

  • @LornaO'Leary Interesting input from you, Lorna. Thank you.

  • @LornaO'Leary Thank you for sharing your arrangements, Lorna. It does sound like you have a great mix of support (if needed) and choice (if wanted). Lucky indeed :)

  • @SunitaSahu I think we could view the statement about contribution through social lens. We, humans, are very social by nature thus interactions we have with others are important. What do you think?

  • @RoseJanc Important points, Rose. I wonder what others think about the current level of knowledge and skills around food?

  • @BernardineFarrell Hi Bernardine and welcome to the course! Thank you for your interest in our centre and the academy. I look forward to reading your comments here :)

  • @AlliG Not really, Alli. If our bodies were designed to heal itself given the right support, many of us would live forever. But I do believe that the right support is essential part of health and healing.

  • Thanks, Kylee!

  • @KyleeHudson Thank you for the fantastic feedback, Kylee! All the best with work and study - I hope to see the results soon.

  • @IakovinaKoutoufa Good points here, Iakovian. Your last one re: attribution of changes in symptoms to an increase in self-efficacy/self-care is a very challenging one to unpack in practice. We are currently doing a so called 'feeding study' where participants provided with all their meal in both groups, intervention and control. Results of this investigation...

  • @IakovinaKoutoufa Great paper, thanks for sharing Iakovina.

  • @BarbaraK-S Interesting article, thanks for sharing Barbara!

  • @KyleeHudson Great comment, Kylee. I know exactly what you mean by "increased health anxiety"!

  • @KyleeHudson very little, unfortunately. This recent systematic review provides synthesis the efficacy of either low carbohydrate or ketogenic diets for adults with existing issues but notes absence of high quality evidence https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10134254/
I don't think there is much in terms of healthy population. I will have a look...

  • @KyleeHudson Yes, FMT could be very beneficial and provide another avenue for treatment - very interesting and promising area in psychiatry.

  • @KyleeHudson I am looking forward to see how you go with this, Kylee!

  • @TabithaF I like your approach when it comes to positive thinking, Tabitha!

  • @IakovinaKoutoufa Thanks for introducing yourself, Iakovina. Welcome to the course!

  • @andrejafabic Hi Andreja! Great to have you here.

  • @TabithaF Hi Tabitha and welcome to the course!

  • @JuneWebb Thank you for your feedback, June. Fantastic to see that our work will be replicated in your practice. All the best and take care!

  • @AlliG I don't think it's that black and white, Alli but I do agree that many current policies could do with adjustments.

  • @AlliG As an Australian Accredited Practising Dietitian, I can assure you, Alli, that all dietitians provide personalised nutrition as understanding history (including health, diet, social etc) is the core of our practice.

  • @AlliG Fantastic, thank you for the feedback, Alli! Prof Rucklidge is a great colleague of our research centre and done a lot of work in establishing the field.

  • @AlliG You'd be pleased to know, Alli, that the Australian guidelines are currently undergoing revision. It is a lengthy process because ALL available evidence need careful revision to form a set of recommendations. Let's wait and see, shall we?

  • Interesting discussion, team. I agree that the modern medicine provides as with many advantages but it is always important to 'listen to our body' and, ideally, use a mix approach where we, as individuals, can drive our own healthcare with support and guidance from our health care team. What do we think about that?

  • Great reflection, Omowumi! I look forward to you sharing some of your favourite recipes.

  • @KyleeHudson Good questions, Kylee. Vegetarian/vegan diets are a bit more challenging to assess. Usually, we (dietitians) pay attention to sources of protein, iron etc. The usual serving of nuts is about 30g per day.

  • @TheresaDavies Because it's a premium course, you are welcome to study and your pace and access all the material whenever it suits you. However, if you would like to claim your CPD hours with the RANZCP this year, you would need to pass the course and assessments this calendar year. I hope this makes sense.

  • @TheresaDavies Important aspects to assess, Theresa.

  • @KyleeHudson Great to see you are enjoying your learning, Kylee!

  • @VanessaPowick Thanks for your positive feedback, Vanessa!

  • @LeticiaLevesque Hi Leticia, welcome!

  • @MaryThornton Hi Mary. Yes, absolutely. Which research studies you would like to access?

  • Hi Kylee. Thank you for introducing yourself. Great to have you here!

  • @KyleeHudson Great question, Kylee. We will unpack serving sizes in Week 3, when talking about the diet used in the SMILES trial. In Australia, the most commonly used reference is from Eat for Health https://www.eatforhealth.gov.au/food-essentials/how-much-do-we-need-each-day/serve-sizes

  • @ArsalanBaig Hi Arsalan. Great to have you here!

  • @ChandanaThilakasiriWL Thank you for introducing yourself and a warm welcome to the course, Chandana!

  • Great links, thanks Lucinda.

  • @CiaraOSullivan Hi Ciara. Yes, there are a few, but all of these are up for a debate: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6434272/

  • @PraveenKumar Hi Praveen. We further discuss disorders of gut-brain interaction in Step 2.15. The ROME criteria and questionnaire (referenced above and in the link below) is a self-report questionnaire for diagnosis of all functional gastrointestinal disorders. I hope you will find it...

  • @ZeldaSummers It's a great question, Zelda. Whilst we wait for other practitioners to respond, the below scoping review explores your question in details and touches on underlying mechanisms. Let me know what you think, please.
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9547233/

  • @ZeldaSummers Sounds like a great variety of fermented foods, Zelda! I have to agree with you on the smell of the sauerkraut and the kimchi - it's very strong. I have a fit-for-purpose container for this, and it helps greatly with keeping the odors contained.

  • @ScottJenkins Hi Scott. The second assessment mostly based on information covered in week 3 of the course.

  • @ScottJenkins Hi Scott. If you are unable to request full access through your professional organisation, please consider requesting the article directly from the authors here https://www.researchgate.net/publication/319474361_Expanding_collaborative_care_integrating_the_role_of_dietitians_and_nutrition_interventions_in_services_for_people_with_mental_illness

  • @JuliaSinclair
Hi Julia. I am sorry to hear about your mother.
As this is a premium course, you have an unlimited access to all the learning material and can come back any time. I might not be actively available later in the year on this platform, but please feel free to email me, should you have any questions. Also, you might like to follow our Food and...

  • @AmyMaughan Amy, you can complete both parts of the assessment at any time. If you are claiming your 2023 CPD hours with the RANZCP, please complete the assessments this calendar year.

  • @LuciaHennelova Hi Lucia and welcome to the course!

  • @PatriciaGoncalves Great points, Patricia!
