    The entry requirements for the 2024/2025 academic year are as follows:

    • An accredited medical degree (MBChB or equivalent). You must be in a supervised clinical environment while you are studying.

    English language requirements

    Non-native English speaker will need one the following English language qualifications at the grades specified:

    • IELTS Academic: total 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each component.
    • TOEFL-iBT (including Home Edition): total 92 with at least 20 in each component. We do not accept TOEFL MyBest Score to meet our English language requirements.
    • C1 Advanced (CAE) / C2 Proficiency (CPE): total 176 with at least 169 in each component.
    • Trinity ISE: ISE II with distinctions in all four components.
    • PTE Academic: total 62 with at least 59 in each component.

    The aim of this degree is to develop your understanding of scientific principles, as relates to surgical practice.

    By the end of this degree, you will:

    • demonstrate a sound understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and microbiology.
    • ensure you have in-depth knowledge of the principles of pre-operative care, surgical management, post-operative management, and the professional, management and generic aspects of surgery as applied to general surgical practice.
    • develop an understanding of research methodology and conduct your own independent, original research project.

    With this set of skills, you’ll be prepared to take the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) examination or explore further study options.
