Increase your knowledge about vaccination

This two-week course will help you gain an understanding of vaccines and why they can help protect the health of those living or working in prisons and those around them.

The content of this course is the same as for vaccine-trained staff, but has additional information for you to refer to.

This course has been developed by the European Consortium RISE-Vac who works to protect the health of those in prisons by promoting vaccine literacy and improving access to vaccination.

Delve into vaccination in prison

You’ll learn why infectious diseases are particularly important in the prison context and what the main risk factors are before and during incarceration.

Next, you’ll examine the most relevant vaccine preventable diseases for people living and working in prisons.

Improve your conversations about vaccines

Finally, you’ll explore effective communication in relation to vaccines so that you can have quality conversations about vaccination with people living in prison and your friends and family. You’ll understand how to address common perceptions of people living in prison towards vaccination and learn 10 key facts about vaccination.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge about vaccination in prison that you need to help you make informed decisions about vaccination and the skills to communicate about vaccination effectively to others.
