The emphasis of the program is on improving knowledge, skills and strategies known to promote healthy eating and active play. INFANT focuses on key determinants of these health behaviours in the home setting – parental knowledge and skills and in turn confidence, home availability of food and play opportunities, and parental modelling of healthy lifestyle behaviours.

  • describe what INFANT is and what benefits it offers
  • identify the key messages and principles of INFANT and the evidence that supports these
  • explore INFANT support resources (website, parent app, facilitator guide) and consider how these will be used in program delivery
  • reflect on some of the challenges of supporting parents to achieve health behaviour change and using evidenced based behaviour change strategies to overcome these
  • reflect on best practice principles for group facilitation and how this relates to your own experiences of facilitating group programs
  • discuss and develop ways to adapt program sessions to suit the needs of parents and infants in your community while maintaining the core components of the program
  • develop a plan for how INFANT will be delivered and evaluated in your community
  • collaborate and network with INFANT researchers and other INFANT facilitators for ongoing support

Who is the course for?

This course has been created for health professionals with an interest in implementing the INFANT program in their community.

Who will you learn with?

Karen Campbell is a Professor in the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Deakin University. Her work focuses on improving maternal and child health through achieving optimal nutrition.

Rachel is an Associate Professor of Public Health Nutrition at the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Deakin University. Her research focuses on nutition in first 2000 days of life.

Postdoctoral research fellow and accredited practising dietitian within the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN), focusing on early intervention and prevention of childhood obesity.

Anthea Gregoriou is the INFANT State-wide Implementation Coordinator at the IPAN and a Dietitian/Public Health Nutritionist. Her focus is to assist with the implementation and sustainability of INFANT

Kathy McConell is the INFANT State-wide Implementation Coordinator at the IPAN and a Dietitian/Public Health Nutritionist. Her focus is to assist with the implementation and sustainability of INFANT.
