During this course you will have the chance to develop your understanding of the changing geography of the global economy, thinking in particular about the rise of emerging markets and their impact on the global business environment.

Recent decades have seen the globalisation of the business environment. This development has sponsored enormous opportunities but complicated the risks associated with business operations.

On this course you will also have the opportunity to discover how changing realities transform companies.

  • Explore contemporary economic globalisation and the competing explanations for its intensification since 1945
  • Discuss how different views of globalisation conceptualise the global business environment 
  • Explore the relationship between states and multinational corporations (MNCs) as a key factor shaping the global business environment, and the related notion of ‘triangular diplomacy’
  • Explore the shifting global economic landscape and how it impacts global businesses
  • Explore the factors that make BRICS nations attractive to global businesses, as well as their underlying challenges and risks
  • Explore China’s attractiveness and challenges for global businesses and investors
  • Investigate the emerging markets ‘beyond the BRICS’ and the opportunities and challenges associated with their business environments
