Digital transformation is a fundamental part of business today. From CRMs to analytics tools, there are an almost infinite number of information systems available to assist companies operationally.

On this six-week course from National Tsing Hua University, you’ll become an expert in digital transformation for business. Whatever your level of technical expertise, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge you need to accelerate your digital career.

Learn how to harness information systems for business strategy

After an introduction to the concept of digital transformation, you’ll get stuck into discussing its role in business strategy.

You’ll explore the added value that digital systems can bring to businesses, and examine real-world case studies of digital transformation at work.

Discover digital supply chain management and customer relationship management

In Weeks 4 and 5 of the course, you’ll consider the digitalisation of supply chain management (SCM) and customer relations management (CRM).

You’ll look at a range of examples showing how digital transformation has enhanced an organisation’s internal and external procedures.

Gain hands-on experience of data mining and data analytics

In the final week of the course, you’ll address the issue of data analytics. Using real data sets and analytics software, you’ll gain hands-on experience of processing business data.

Throughout the course, you’ll complete practical exercises and analyse real business case studies, helping prepare you to put your data expertise into practice.

    DT and DA Introduction

    • Course Introduction

      Welcome to our course, Fundamentals of Digital Transformation and Data Analytics! Meet the team who will be helping you through the course and find out more about what you'll be learning.

    • What is Digital Transformation?

      In this activity, we will briefly introduce the main concept of digital transformation (DT).

    • Debate: The world is flat

      After learning the basic idea about digital transformation and the perception, the world is flat, we hold a debate to show your opinion.

    • Weekly Review

      Reflect on what you have learned about digital transformation this week.

  • Week 2

    DT and Business Strategy

    • Introduction to business strategy

      In the first activity, we are going to introduce you to different business strategies used in enterprises.

    • Dell Case Study

      Learn business strategy through Dell case.

    • Weekly Review - Conclusion of Dell Case

      Conclude and discuss the business strategy in the Dell case.

    • (Optional) Digital Transformation Case

      Share a digital transformation case with several challenges that happen in a company.

  • Week 3

    DT and Internal Organization (ERP)

    • DT system in the enterprise

      In this activity, we introduce how IT systems work in the enterprise and enterprise resource planning systems (ERP).

    • ERP and BOM

      Introduce how ERP systems manage business processes, and how BOM provides a detailed list of components needed to manufacture a product.

    • Challenges of an Integrated ERP

      Describe the challenges that happened when implementing an integrated ERP system.

    • Weekly Review - Cisco Case Study

      Conclude and discuss the ERP system in the Cisco case.

  • Week 4

    DT and Supply Chain Management (SCM)

    • Supply Chain Management (SCM)

      In this activity, we give an overview of the supply chain and present the difficulty of supply chain management (SCM).

    • Bullwhip Effect

      In this activity, we shed light on the bullwhip effect, a crucial phenomenon that occurs in the supply chain.

    • Beer Game

      In this activity, we will understand the bullwhip effect through a beer game.

    • Weekly Review - SCM

      In this activity, we review the concept of SCM systems and what we learned about the bullwhip effect through the beer game.

  • Week 5

    DT and Customer Relationship Management (CRM)

    • Customer Strategy

      In this activity, we will show you how to develop a customer strategy.

    • Customer Relationship Management (CRM)

      In this activity, we show you what are the key steps to building customer relationship management (CRM).

    • Data Analytics

      Show how and why data analytics are important.

    • Cloud Computing

      Introducing the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing.

  • Week 6

    DT and Data Analytics

    • Introduction of Data Analytics

      In this activity, we will familiarize you with the fundamentals of data analytics, including the critical steps involved in conducting data mining.

    • How to run data mining

      Demonstrate how to run a data mining project through RapidMiner software.

    • Improve Data mining results

      Demonstrate how to improve a data mining process.

    • Course Review - Business Value

      In the last activity, we review the concepts of the whole course and discuss the business values associated with digital transformation and data analytics.
