Skip to 0 minutes and 1 second MICHAEL PEREIRA: Splitting water to generate hydrogen is a long established method of electrolysis. Advancements in technology though mean that there are now many ways to efficiently and safely create hydrogen. Hi, I’m Michael Pereira, an Associate Professor in mechanical engineering at Deakin University and the deputy director of the Hycel Technology Hub. I’ve been working in the area of hydrogen fuel cell research for several years, and I’m passionate about developing the technology to help us rapidly decarbonize our economy. Hydrogen has the potential to be a major part of the renewable energy mix needed to power our future. This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of current electrolyser technologies and give you a glimpse into the innovations being trialled for the future.

Skip to 0 minutes and 54 seconds Co-designed with engineers working across a range of fields, the course will promote proficiency in industry terminology and allow you to engage with a wider field of engineers. It aligns to the Engineers Australia area of practise to bring everyone on the journey towards improving and advancing the use of hydrogen. Throughout this learning journey, we’ll explore the principles of electrolysis operation and the science that drives the transformative process. Comparing the main features of electrolyser technologies, you’ll gain insights into the strengths and applications of each type. Using an innovative 3D model, you’ll get digitally hands on with an electrolyser to visualise the principles of its operation.

Skip to 1 minute and 36 seconds We’ll summarise the key requirements for successful design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of electrolysis, equipping you with the knowledge to excel in your own projects. We’ll also touch on lifecycle management including standards, compliance, and operational readiness, all aspects of a successful hydrogen electrolyser project. So whether you’re an engineer or technical professional, a business leader or manager, or simply passionate about sustainable energy, join us for electrolyzer fundamentals and advance your career towards becoming a leader in the field of electrolysis.
