This course aims to enable you to develop your knowledge of the business strategies that give organisations the competitive edge they need to succeed.

During the course, you will have the chance to explore business models and frameworks for managing corporate portfolios and growth strategies.

What topics will you cover?

  • Business strategy and suitable strategic options to aid competition in a given industry or sector
  • Porter’s generic strategies and Bowman’s strategy clock
  • Business model components: value creation, configuration and capture
  • Corporate strategies for growing an organisation through market and/or product development and diversification
  • Dimensions of diversification, synergy effects and outsourcing
  • The use of portfolio tools to evaluate strategic options

  • Identify strategic options for growing an organisation
  • Assess opportunities for diversification and evaluate the potential for synergy effects
  • Analyse an organisation’s portfolio of strategic business units and evaluate the strategic options resulting thereof
  • Analyse how a corporate parent can add or destroy value for its portfolio of business units
