Islamic finance is an industry that aims to deliver financial solutions to businesses and private individuals in order to allow them to conduct their affairs in ways acceptable to their faith, Islam. These financial practices, their underlying principles and the ethical basis underpinning this industry is what you will explore in this course. You will study Islamic economics and finance and its claims of offering an alternative way of conducting business and financing the economy which is fairer and more sustainable. The final three weeks of this course will be spent on revision and exam preparation of all four programs to the Postgraduate Certificate in Finance.

Who is the course for?

This course is aimed for everyone who works in areas such as corporate finance, investment banking, portfolio management, treasury, law and consultancy.

What software or tools do you need?

A computing device with a browser and broadband internet access is required for this module. Any modern browser will be suitable for most computer activities. Functionality may be limited on mobile devices.

Any additional software will be provided or is generally freely available. However, some activities may have more specific requirements. For this reason, you will need to be able to install and run additional software on a device that meets the requirements below.

A desktop or laptop computer with either and up to date Windows or macOS.

The screen of the device must have a resolution of at least 1024 pixels horizontally and 768 pixels vertically.

To join in the spoken conversation in our online rooms we recommend a headset (headphones or earphones with an integrated microphone).

Who will you learn with?

I am a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the Open University and lead its MSc in Finance. My research is on the financing of innovative businesses, venture capital and frictions in financial markets.

I am Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at The Open University Business School. My main research interests lies in the areas of international accounting and corporate finance.
