Analyse the EU’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic tested the EU in unprecedented ways, prompting significant health, economic, and social interventions.

You’ll examine the measures taken by the EU to combat the pandemic’s effects, including the rapid development and distribution of vaccines, public health directives, and support mechanisms for affected economies.

Discover the role of the EU in the Russia-Ukraine war

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has significant ramifications for the European Union. This segment explores the EU’s response to the crisis, including its diplomatic efforts, sanctions against Russia, and support for Ukraine.

      The lead educator, Dr Ian Cooper, introduces the course in an introductory video.

    • The EU Pandemic Response

      In 2020, the world faced the crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic. How did the EU respond?

    • War in Ukraine

      After 75 years of peace in Europe, war has occurred again. We examine the response of the EU to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

    • Review of Course

      This activity summaries the course along with a quiz to test your learning.

Who is the course for?

This course is designed for engaged citizens, including first-year undergraduate students and professionals in Ireland, the European Union, and beyond, who seek to understand the EU’s crisis responses without requiring specialised knowledge.

Who will you learn with?

Ian Cooper is Research Fellow at the DCU Brexit Institute and Scientific Coordinator of the REBUILD Centre. He holds a Ph.D. from Yale University and previously worked in Oslo, Cambridge and Florence.
