All living things on planet Earth are faced with evolving health challenges. Epidemiology helps us understand how healthy populations of humans and animals are, and furthermore, how effective our health systems are. Epidemiologists play a key role in public health policy and development.

  • Past and present health challenges at global and regional levels
  • Definition of terms related to public health, epidemiology and causality
  • The objectives of epidemiology
  • The role of epidemiology and epidemiologists in public health policy and development
  • How to calculate and interpret measures of disease occurrence and association
  • How to select appropriate measures for a different situations
