Build MBA foundations in strategy, finance, leadership and sustainability
Develop MBA foundations for sustainable impact.
This microcredential provides a practical and accessible introduction to the core foundations of an MBA, tailored for professionals working in impact-driven contexts.
Over six weeks, you’ll explore key areas such as strategy, finance, marketing, leadership and operations, all through the lens of social and environmental impact.
The programme is designed to bridge the gap between strong social missions and effective business practice.
It combines conceptual knowledge with real-world applications, using case studies from social enterprises, NGOs and sustainable businesses across the globe.
You’ll learn how to strengthen the financial sustainability of your organisation, make informed strategic decisions and develop initiatives that generate both impact and long-term value.
By the end of the microcredential, you’ll have the tools, mindset and confidence to lead purpose-driven organisations in a complex and rapidly changing world.
Explore business strategy for impact
Begin by exploring the impact economy, including social enterprises, sustainability challenges and the role businesses can play in creating positive impact.
You’ll develop your understanding of business strategy, competitive positioning and systems thinking in mission-driven contexts.
You’ll also explore stakeholder mapping and Theory of Change to understand key stakeholders and identify pathways to impact.
Build financial sustainability
Develop the financial knowledge needed to support sustainable social enterprises and impact-driven organisations.
You’ll explore revenue models, budgeting and financial planning before examining different approaches to hybrid financing and impact investing, including grants, earned income, blended finance and social investment.
Develop leadership and organisational skills
Explore marketing, communication and sustainable leadership in mission-driven organisations.
You’ll consider ethical branding, storytelling and stakeholder engagement, alongside leadership styles, governance and managing teams in hybrid organisations.
You’ll also explore project management, operational efficiency and organisational design.
Measure and scale your impact
Learn how to monitor and evaluate impact using approaches including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ESG and impact metrics.
You’ll then explore how partnerships, innovation and strategic growth can help organisations scale their impact while remaining sustainable.
How will you be assessed?
Throughout the course, you’ll complete progress tests designed to reinforce your understanding of key concepts and support your learning. You’ll also have the opportunity to complete an optional final assignment to earn 1 ECTS credit and gain formal recognition of your achievement at postgraduate level. As part of FutureLearn’s microcredential framework, you’ll also have access to optional practice tests, with model answers, to get ready for your final credit-bearing assessment, should you wish to get additional university credit.
