This program focuses on studying the use of key performance indicators as they are crucial tools for assessing the performance of organisations.

This will include learning how to estimate the cost of capital underlying the discount rate used in project appraisal and company valuation, Also the factors that managers take into account when determining the best or optimal debt and equity mix – or capital structure – and dividend policy.

Through the course of this program, you will develop fundamental research skills in dealing with resources and databases.

This program is the second of a set of four that make up the Open University module Corporate finance (BXM850).

Who will you learn with?

I am a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the Open University and lead its MSc in Finance. My research is on the financing of innovative businesses, venture capital and frictions in financial markets.

I am a Chartered Accountant who, before moving into teaching, worked in the real estate investment and development sector. I have also been a director on a number of investment funds.
