Develop your students' learning with engaging and effective practical lessons

How can teachers ensure students get the most out of science lessons? What's the best way to teach practical science and progress student learning?

You will develop your classroom practice for 14-16 year old students with this program of flexible courses designed as CPD for teachers of science subjects.

Through the courses you'll build your confidence in teaching practical skills in biology, chemistry and physics. You'll learn how to bring context into your practical lessons, what makes a good learning outcome and you will collaborate with other teachers and trade ideas for teaching science.

Courses

To get an award you will need to upgrade all courses on this program, then qualify for a Certificate of Achievement on each course. To qualify you need to do at least 90% of each course and score an average of 70% or above on any tests.

Once you have qualified for a Certificate of Achievement on every course you will receive a FutureLearn Award.

This program will require 9 weeks of learning and cost a total of $222.

Learning outcomes

The program Teaching Practical Science has been designed for teachers to develop their classroom practice when delivering practical science lessons. By completing all three courses in this program, you will have:

  • improved your confidence in delivering and evaluating teaching for practical skills in biology, chemistry and physics for 14-16 year olds;
  • defined effective learning outcomes for practical work in biology, chemistry and physics;
  • reflected on the effectiveness of practical activities on every students’ learning;
  • designed progression and assessment approaches within practical work;
  • collaborated with peers, educators and mentors to share and critique ideas for teaching practical science.
