Gain advanced Excel skills

This three-week course will help you develop advanced Microsoft Excel skills to improve your workflow in your job role or increase productivity in your personal life.

You’ll further your knowledge of Excel as you delve into advanced functions, Excel tables, and data analysis before completing a series of activities to cement your knowledge.

By the end of the course, you’ll know how to unlock Microsoft Excel’s full potential to use for complex data and to create stunning visuals.

Understand Excel lookup functions

You’ll start by exploring advanced functions such as date and time, finance, lookup, and logical functions.

With this knowledge, you’ll be able to retrieve information, perform data analysis, and carry out complex calculations with ease.

Explore Excel tables

As you delve into the uses of Excel tables, you’ll learn advanced skills such as connecting to other workbooks and datasets outside of Excel to ensure your data only needs to update in one place.

Next, you’ll learn how to work with tables and table references. This will help you gain crucial skills in using pivot tables to help you query large amounts of data in a user-friendly way.

Learn Excel data analysis

You’ll develop essential data analyst skills as you explore the difference between What-If Analysis, Goal Seek, and Scenario Manager to help you find the information you need from data in Excel.

Finally, you’ll learn how to create stand-out visualisations using sparklines and data bars as well as advanced charts such as Surface, Radar, Bubble, and Stock Charts.

By the end of the course, you’ll have developed the skills to use the advanced functions in Excel for your personal and professional needs.

    • Logical functions and lookup functions

      In this activity, we will discuss various logical functions that allow users to evaluate the values in cells, and lookup functions that allow users to identify a value in a list or index.

    • Financial functions

      In this activity, we will describe how Excel can be used to perform a variety of financial calculations for both personal and professional use.

      In this activity, we will describe the functions available in Excel to perform statistical forecasting and inference.

    • Connecting to external data

      In this activity, we will discuss how to deal with data from outside a workbook by connecting to external data sources.

    • Using tables in Excel

      In this activity, we will discuss the features and uses of tables in Excel.

    Analysing and visualising data

    • Introduction to Week 3

      In this activity, we will identify the basic, advanced, and newer features of pivot tables and why they are such a useful tool in Excel.

    • Data analysis

      In this activity, we will discuss the tools and features in Excel that can be used for data analysis.

    • Graphs and charts

      In this activity, we will discuss different types of advanced graphs and charts available in Excel, such as surface, radar, bubble, and stock charts.

    • Excel web app

      In this activity, we will discuss the key features of the web application version of Excel.
