Delving further into workbooks, you’ll explore the page setup and print options to ensure your formatting is correct.

You’ll understand how to navigate rows, columns, and cells and start to work with sheets. You’ll learn how to add, delete, rename, and format sheets, which will be your starting point for handling data.

Understand how to use pivot tables

You’ll gain an introduction to charts and how to use graphics to enhance the charts you create.

Next, you’ll delve into pivot tables to help you quickly summarise large groups of data with ease.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and confidence to start using Excel to handle and analyse data. You’ll have a solid foundation of knowledge to build on with more advanced Excel functions in the future.

    • Introduction to the course

      Welcome to A Beginner’s Guide to Data Handling and Management in Excel and the start of your learning journey, brought to you by Packt.

      In this activity , we will explore the new features of Excel 2019, learn more about the Excel window mouse features and the backstage view.

    • Creating Workbooks

      In this activity, we will enter text and numbers, create basic formulas, learn about relative references and the order of operations.

    • Saving and navigating workbooks

      In this activity, we will learn about saving commands and explore navigation within the workbook.

    • Page setup and print options

      In this activity, we will discuss headers and footers, print titles, comments, page setup options, and printing settings.

    • Working with rows, columns, and cells and moving data

      In this activity, we will explore working with rows, columns and cells and demonstrate how to move data.

    • Wrap up

      You have reached the end of Week 1. In this activity, you'll reflect on what you have learned.

    Setting up your workbook

    • Introduction to Week 2

      Welcome to Week 2. In this activity we'll highlight the main topics that will be covered this week.

    • Formulas and functions

      In this activity, we will discuss formulas, create formulas using functions, learn about absolute values and complete a practice exercise.

    • Working with and formatting sheets

      In this activity, we will discuss adding, deleting, and renaming sheets, additional sheet tab options and 3D formulas.

    • Formatting worksheets

      In this activity, we will discuss borders and shading, formatting cells as a table and using the format painter tool.

    • Charts

      In this activity, we will describe how to create charts, how to edit charts, how to use graphics to enhance charts, and how to link chart titles.

    • Wrap up

      You have reached the end of Week 2. In this activity, you'll reflect on what you have learned.

  • Week 3

    Working with your workbook

    • Introduction to Week 3

      Welcome to Week 3. In this activity we'll highlight the main topics that will be covered this week.

    • Working with names; sorting and filtering

      In this activity, we will create and manage range names, use range names in formulas and learn how to remove duplicates, sort data and filter data.

    • Outlining and subtotaling, and working with views

      In this activity, we will describe the process of creating an outline and subtotaling. You will also learn about arranging files, the new window option, and custom views.

    • Linking files and advanced formula creation

      In this activity, we will create formulas between files, work with links, and consolidate data. We’ll also look at if statements, VLOOKUPs, data validation and formula auditing.

    • Pivot tables, additional Excel features, shortcuts and closing

      In this activity, we will discuss additional features such as pivot tables and charts, slicers, goal seeker, changing text to columns, the watch window, ribbon and tab customisation and shortcuts.

    • Wrap up

      You have reached the end of Week 3. In this activity, you'll reflect on what you have learned.
