In this course we begin with a comparison of the FinTech and traditional banking models. We then map out the FinTech payments landscape, and discuss the role of mobile devices in payments. We present the details of the Payment Services Directive 2 regulations of the EU, designed to increase competition and improve payments services for customers. We then consider FinTech and mobile solutions that allow for financial access and inclusion in developing countries. We study a number of jurisdictions as case studies. We close with a discussion of future trends in respect of banking and payments.

Mark Cummins is Professor of Finance at the Dublin City University Business School and Director of the Irish Institute of Digital Business. Interests include financial technology (FinTech).

Dr. Pierangelo Rosati is Assistant Professor in Business Analytics at DCU Business School. He has extensive experience in working with companies in the areas of fintech, blockchain and analytics.
