Try it out
Have a go at creating an explanation for your learners.
- Think of an explanation that gives information about how something is formed, how something works or why something happens/happened. Or think of an explanation you sometimes struggle with in class. Decide how you could help learners to understand it.
- Write your explanation and check the language you used. Is it clear? Are the sentences the right length – not too long? Do you need to use passive forms in the explanation? Does your explanation include an example? You might want to look again at the documents in the downloads section for some ideas.
- Read the explanation aloud to practise it.
- If you have time this week, use your explanation in class and tell us how it went.
