Catalan media on the web
To find out more about Catalan media, you can take a look at the websites of the following institutions.
The Audiovisual Council of Catalonia (CAC) belongs to the Government of Catalonia. It is an independent regulatory authority with its own legal identity, in the field of public and private audiovisual communication, managed by the Generalitat directly. The purpose of the CAC is to ensure the respect for rights and freedoms in the audiovisual field, ensure compliance with the regulations of programming and advertising, and ensure compliance with the terms of concessions and the observance of the related European regulations and international treaties. It aims to ensure political, religious, social, linguistic and cultural plurality in the field of audiovisuals in Catalonia and to monitor the neutrality and honesty of the information broadcasted. It must uphold the effective fulfilment of the rules governing the use of Catalan and the promotion of Aranese, both official languages of Catalonia.
The Guild of Journalists is the result of the work and the effort of many journalists. The long tradition of association of Catalan journalism and the fight for the restoration of democracy culminated in 1985 with the creation of a professional association acting as a public service and in response to the needs of professionals and the Catalan society. The Audiovisual Production Observatory (OPA) is a portal of Pompeu Fabra University intended to offer study, documentation and discussion services on the dynamics of audiovisual production and, in general, on the entire audiovisual sector. The OPA is conceived as a meeting place between the professional and the academic world from where to be able to offer tools for the knowledge and development, above all, of the Catalan audiovisual industry. The purpose of the OPA, therefore, is to put at the disposal of the Catalan society and of the main players in the audiovisual sector a platform of services of documentation, information, analysis and research on the evolution and the dynamics of the sector, especially production. The OPA is an initiative of UNICA (Audiovisual Communication Research Unit), the research group at Pompeu Fabra University, consolidated by the Government of Catalonia.
