ENGL2011.1: Storying The World Through Picturebooks

Understand what kind of ideas are attached to the notion of "the child" and the typical forms that children's literature take.

Mother reading with children
  • Duration

    3 weeks
  • Weekly study

    2 hours

In this module, we explore the world of children’s literature by spending time considering “the idea” of the child and how notions of the child have been, can be and are constructed in children’s literature. We will then consider how words and pictures in children’s literature can construct the world for the child and then pull it apart and play with it anew. Finally, we will continue to reconsider how the world is constructed in postmodern storytelling by focusing on Radical Change Theory and the Graphic Novel.
