This four-week course will help you learn the tools and techniques that the fashion industry is hungry for as you hone your fashion tech skills using fashion design software.

Develop your digital design knowledge with futuristic fashion technology

On this course, you’ll gain an understanding of digitalised fashion design processes and trace the journey from initial ideas to completed, three-dimensional designs.

Improve your pattern making skills and learn how to create a 3D garment from scratch

As the weeks progress, you’ll grow in confidence and use your digital design skills to create your very own, uniquely styled garment. This will help you build both relevant skills and individual designs to add to your CV and portfolio.

Increase your employability in the fashion world with better virtual prototyping skills

An ever-increasing number of fashion brands, from high-end names like Gucci and Louis Vuitton, to major high street presences are making strides in the virtual market. This means they’re always on the lookout for designers with digital skills.

This course will ensure you upskill in a hugely sought-after area of expertise, developing your digital skills as you become proficient in using CLO 3D.

By the end, you’ll be able to design various garments and be able to adapt the skills you have learnt over the weeks to fit any brief and showcase your skills to prospective employers.

Syllabus

  • Week 1

    Getting started: What is CLO 3D? Foundations in CLO 3D.

    • Introduction & Interface

      During this activity, there will be a detailed introduction about the CLO 3D interface including:2D&3D windows; library; history & modular configurator; top menu.

    • User settings & Navigation

      In this activity, we are going to learn about user settings and how to navigate, select, and move things in CLO 3D. All the basics that every beginner needs!

    • Basic skills 1- drawing a T-shirt(1)

      In this activity, you are going to learn some of the essential skills to create patterns in CLO 3D. You can follow steps to practice all those skills and make your first T-shirt at the same time.

    • Basic skills 1- drawing a T-shirt(2)

      In this activity, you are going to learn some of the essential skills to create patterns in CLO 3D. You can follow steps to practice all those skills and complete your first T-shirt at the same time.

    Getting better: Two practices to understand basic pattern cutting skills in CLO 3D.

    • Introduction

      This article provides a brief overview of what you will be studying this week.

    • Basic skills 2 - making trousers (1)

      In this activity, you are going to learn pattern editing tools, internal shape tools, few supporting arrangement features and how to use them to complete a pair of trousers.

    • Basic skills 2 - making trousers (2)

      In this activity, you are going to learn pattern editing tools, internal shape tools, few supporting arrangement features and how to use them to complete a pair of trousers.

    • Basic skills 3 - making a blouse (1)

      In this activity, you are going to learn folding angle, dart tool and use them to construct your blouse details such as collar, cuffs and cuff plackets.

    • Basic skills 3 - making a blouse (2)

      In this activity, I will walk you through the workflow to complete your blouse. The button tool and particle distance feature will be covered.

  • Week 3

    Exploring: Essential skills to make your own style in CLO 3D

    • Introduction

      This article provides a brief overview of what you will be studying this week.

    • Basic skills 4 - Tools to optimize 3D simulation and fix collisions.

      In this activity, you will learn tools and features to achieve better and easier 3D simulate outcomes and fix collisions in 3D window.

    • Basic skills 5 - making a smocking dress

      This activity will cover elastic and fullness tool, which are commonly used to make gathering, smoking effects and dress patterns.

    • Basic skills 6 - making a down jacket (1)

      Down jacket is an unique style that requires certain tools to construct. They are Pressure and Fill tool. Follow this step to find out more.

    • Basic skills 6 - making a down jacket (2)

      In this activity, you will continue with the down jacket and learn new tools including zipper, topstitch, puckering, and point pf measure. Follow the activity to find out more.

  • Week 4

    Exploring: Essential skills to make your garments looking better

    • Introduction

      This article provides a brief overview of what you will be studying this week.

    • Basic skills 7 - fabric and material

      This activity will cover basic knowledge of applying and customizing fabric and material in CLO 3D, which is vital to make your 3D garment more realistic and complete design.

    • Basic skills 7 - print

      In this activity, you will learn who to add and edit print on your 3D garment. There are two ways: add print tool and add print as texture.

    • Basic skill 7 - graphic

      This activity will introduce how to add and edit graphic with graphic tool, transform graphic tool and texture editor.

    • Prestation

      In this activity, you will learn the methods of presenting your 3D garments including snapshot. turntable video, and complete render image.
