An expanding world

The world’s demographic reality can be described as growing, aging and moving.

The important point to notice is that the rate of growth is slowing down. At a global level, the world population growth rate peeked back in the mid 1960’s and it has been slowing down ever since. This is happening particularly in the more developed countries, such as Europe, America, Japan and China.

For better or for worse, urbanization has a number of potential benefits, but also a number of potential social concerns.

We will take a closer look at the benefits and concerns of urbanization in the next step.
