Being professional in a role means adhering to an accepted code of behaviour and ethical conduct. On this course, you will explore ethics and professionalism related to human resource management (HRM).

You will understand how professionalism is linked to HRM and learn how to relate ethical conduct to HR practice. You will critically explore the types of ethical issues that may arise within the HR context. Upon completion of this course, you will aim to feel more confident to manage ethical issues in your role as an HR professional.

  • Explain how notions of professionalism are related to the role of HR and HR practice

  • Investigate the different approaches to ethics and how ethical issues can be seen to arise in the context of organisations
  • Explore the types of ethical issues that may arise within the HR context
  • Assess some of the various ethical frameworks that can apply to human resources in different organisational, sectoral and cultural contexts
  • Reflect on your own personal ethics and how they may be managed within the role of HR and HR practice

Who is the course for?

This course is for everyone who would like to develop a career in HR management or an academic career in the field of HR management.

What software or tools do you need?

You will need to be able to install and run additional software on a desktop or laptop computer with either Windows 7 or Mac OS 10.7 or higher. The screen of the device must have a resolution of at least 1024 pixels horizontally and 768 pixels vertically.

You will also need a microphone and speakers/headphones to participate in online discussions.

Charles is a Lecturer in Management (Open University). He has extensive experience in teaching on topics related to Organisation Studies. He completed his PHD at the University of Leicester.
