Examine how information systems can provide a competitive advantage

What is the role of an information management system within an organisation? On this course, you’ll explore the categories and types of Business Enterprise Systems (BES), appraise their integrated nature and evaluate business information system strategies.

As well as the advantages of these systems, you’ll look at legalisation pertaining to information and data. For example, what are the benefits and risks in holding and sharing information? You’ll also consider the role of security and ethics in designing and developing systems, before concluding by evaluating decision support for managers.

  • What does data legislation look like in your country and is it enforced?
  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
  • The benefits and risks in holding and sharing information
  • The role of security in information management
  • Case study: a data leak at a global company – how was it handled and what were the repercussions?
  • Why ethics are important in designing and developing systems
