Learn the basic drawing principles needed for a career in 3D design

On this six-week course, you’ll improve your sketching skills and learn from the experts at the University for the Creative Arts to help you prepare for a career in 3D design.

Learn the basics of freehand drawing for architecture and 3D product design

If your interests lie in 3D design, from architecture or industrial design to interior architecture or product design, this course will develop your freehand artistic skills so you’re prepared for any brief that comes your way.

You’ll explore what constructed and observational drawings are and how they differ. With this foundational knowledge, you can assess future briefs and apply your new skills to create high-quality sketches to impress prospective clients.

Master the elements of design from line drawing to design composition

On this course, you’ll learn about the formal elements of design – line, shape, form, tone, colour, texture, pattern, and composition. You’ll also explore perspective principles and how to use these in your sketches. With this insight, you’ll be able to produce effective drawings and sketches for three-dimensional design.

Build a beginner’s portfolio of product design sketches

Undergraduate design courses are extremely competitive. A portfolio illustrating industry-specific skills will make you stand out from the crowd and highlight your commitment to a career in 3D design.

Once you’ve developed your basic drawing and sketching skills, you’ll learn how to produce a sketch design sheet. You’ll be able to create a professional layout and impress with quality, relevant annotations.

By the end of this course, you’ll have a sound understanding of sketching and drawing in a 3D design context. You’ll have built up a small portfolio that will showcase your skills to universities, colleges, and employers.
