Extracts from 'Grace and Mary' by Lord Melvyn Bragg

In the next step, we’ll be talking to Melvyn Bragg about his novel Grace and Mary. The novel tells the story of Mary, an elderly woman suffering from dementia, and of Grace, her estranged mother. The protagonist of the novel is John, Mary’s son, and many of the most touching moments in Grace and Mary centre on the relationship between John and Mary, and on John’s attempts to communicate with his mother as her condition progresses.

Melvyn has kindly allowed us to share some extracts from his novel, which you can download by following the link below. You might find it helpful to read these extracts before listening to our conversation with Melvyn about his novel, although this reading is not essential.
