What is the evidence of the impact of disruptive behaviour on teachers?

In his recent research Professor Terry Haydn warns that the extent to which disruptive behaviour affects the learning climate and limits pupil achievement has been seriously underestimated by Sir Michael Wilshaw, the Chief Inspector of Education, Children’s Services and Skills, in his 2013 Annual Report.

Haydn’s research also suggests that classroom climate emerges as an important factor in teacher retention and job satisfaction. This is not surprising, but it is worth remembering.

Please also have a look at the impact on poor behaviour and teacher stress in the 2012 DfE report into Pupil Behaviour in Schools in England and the 2014 Ofsted survey report looking into the nature and extent of low-level disruptive behaviour in primary and secondary schools in England.
