During the course will be exploring information flow in the form of packets.
There are many tools that can be used to carry out packet analysis and you may wish to discuss any tools that you have personal experience of in the comments below. However, for the purpose of this course we will be using Wireshark.
This is open source software which enables us to explore what is going on inside a network. We will not be using it right away so if it is new to you it would be advisable to wait until we discuss it in the course before trying it for yourself!
Wireshark is available for UNIX and Windows, can be downloaded onto both Macs and PCs and is available for 32 and 64 bit processors. The link will take you to the download page with advice on the installation process, including a link to an installation problems page Wireshark.
