Learn how to interpret medical literature to make guided patient care decisions
On this course, you will learn how to apply the key principles of evidence-based medicine in practice.
You will explore the basic applications of p-values, power and statistical tests that are typically found in medical literature. You will discover how to interpret number-needed-to-treat, number-needed-to-harm and noninferiority studies through medical literature examples.
You will also understand and review the pros and cons of clinical practice guidelines and decipher the appropriate application of these guidelines in practice.
Syllabus
Week 1
Introduction of Statistical Errors and Common Statistical Tests
Welcome to this course
This course is for any student or practitioner those who specialize in clinical drug information, including undergraduate pharmacy students, post-graduate pharmacy students, and pharmacists in clinical practice.
Statistical Application
This week, Prof. Mary Ferrill is going to explain the possible statistical errors (alpha or beta) and introduce the most common statistical tests used in the medical literature.

Measures of Association: Interpretation of NNT & NNH
The appropriate use of number needed to treat (NNT) and number needed to harm (NNH) in clinical trials
