Apply leadership theory to your practical activities as an educational leader

You will have the chance to identify the summary lessons which can be drawn from the extensive range of examples studied in this program, and assess how best practice can be applied to educational settings.

You will be encouraged to apply the lessons learned from best practice and from leadership research, to guide strategic planning and the identification of the practical day-to-day implications for headship.

What will you achieve?

By the end of the course, you‘ll be able to...

  • Evaluate the summary lessons which can be drawn from leadership best practice in a range of settings
  • Assess how best practice can be applied to educational settings
  • Describe and assess the importance of strategic planning in an industrial setting, and evaluate its value and application to educational contexts
  • Produce your own strategic plan in response to a real-life school situation. Describe and defend this position and evaluate alternative approaches
  • Synthesise the lessons learned from a wide range of non-educational contexts and research-based literature, to identify the practical implications for school leaders
  • Explain and evaluate how the principles of leadership best practice, from a wide range of settings and from research-based literature, apply to real-life educational scenarios
  • Reflect on and describe the features of good leadership in two contrasting school leaders, and examine the reasons why very different personality skill sets can be applied effectively
  • Produce a written report, building on the literature review to analyse a leadership issue of interest
