Hands of people protesting

Welcome to the School for Change Agents 2019!

How do you create change in a complex system like the National Health Service?

We are Helen Bevan and Kathryn Perera, and we hope the School for Change Agents might help answer this question.

The School is a community of thousands of people supporting each other to become more effective agents of change.

Over the next six weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to connect, share and learn through:

  • a global network connected through Twitter conversations, a Facebook community and via regular newsletter updates.
  • access to five webinar sessions delivered by world-renowned speakers, where you’ll learn some of the most important aspects of being a change agent in a health and care organisation
  • a live interactive webinar, the exact content of which is determined by feedback from the course, and will allow you to discuss how you can apply the learning in your locality
  • six online modules to support your learning via this platform, FutureLearn, delivered in partnership with the NHS Leadership Academy.

What you’ll learn during School

We will build change agency, which is the power, individually and collectively, to make a difference. The School will provide you with the skills, confidence and community to make a difference in your organisation or community. It is the most widely used skill-building programme for change in the NHS.

You will leave the School with the power to make change in your organisation. It is about pushing the boundaries of what is possible, mobilising others and making change happen more quickly. The School community will support you in your journey of change during and after you’ve complete the School.

We are more than a school. We are a movement of 15,000 people worldwide in the health sector building a community to create the boldest and most innovative new ideas in health and care.

Who is the School aimed at?

The School has been developed by a team based within the NHS in England.

Although it was originally designed for NHS staff to develop their skills and confidence in making change in their workplaces, many of the topics covered are applicable to other sectors and other countries. Like the NHS, we make it free at the point of use; we are open and welcoming to all those interested in changing our public services for the better.

The topics we talk about can also apply to:

  • people working in health and care systems outside England.
  • people working in other public sectors such as local authorities, housing or the police.
  • people working in voluntary and charity organisations.
  • people who are patients and carers, who use the NHS.

We hope you enjoy you time at School; we look forward to getting to know you over the next six weeks.

Certification

If you want to receive a certificate for completing School, and continue to have access to the modules on FutureLearn, you will need to upgrade. The small charge we make for doing this helps fund what we do and keep School accessible.
