A lot of what most people know about Tourette’s is what we have seen in the media but in fact, Tourette’s presents itself very differently.

This two-week course from Tourettes Action will dispel lots of the myths that surround Tourette’s to show you the true reality of the neurological condition and how it affects those living it.

With this awareness, you’ll know how people with Tourette syndrome (TS) can be better understood and supported.

Unpack the symptoms of Tourette syndrome

You’ll start by identifying the symptoms of Tourette’s, including motor and vocal tics.

Delving further into the different types of motor and vocal tics, you’ll discover how they are categorised into simple and complex forms. You’ll also gain an understanding of coprophenomena and how it is relevant to Tourette’s.

Explore the physical and emotional impact of Tourette’s

With an understanding of the symptoms of Tourette’s, you’ll be able to explore the impact these have on individuals.

You’ll study both the physical and emotional impacts of TS to help you gain insights into the challenges faced on both levels.

Discover the support available for people with Tourette syndrome

Finally, you’ll discover the different support available for people living with TS, as well as their family and friends.

By the end, you’ll be empowered with the knowledge to contribute to a more supportive and understanding community for individuals with Tourette syndrome.

    Understanding Tourette Syndrome

    • Introduction

      In this section you will learn what Tourette Syndrome (TS) is, the common misconceptions around TS and what other Tic disorders there are.

    • Symptoms of Tourette Syndrome

      In this section you will learn about the key features of TS, tics and how they are categorised.

    • Co-occurring features and conditions

      In this section you will learn about the conditions and features which often accompany Tourette Syndrome and how these can often impact individuals more than the TS itself.

    • Impact of TS

      In this section you will learn about the impact of TS, what tics can feel like for an individual, what suppression is and how this can affect people.

    • Support

      In this section you will learn what can help support those with TS, what is known to increase and reduce tics and what help is available from Tourettes Action.
