The Monash University set of ‘Food as Medicine’ professional certificate courses are recognised by NNEdPro, as a pathway for doctors and other healthcare professionals to enter their International Academy of Nutrition Educators (IANE). NNEdPro is a global centre for nutrition and health anchored at the University of Cambridge, working to improve nutrition-related health outcomes for patients.

Completing these professional certificate courses enables doctors and healthcare professionals to apply for IANE membership, which gives access to a network of medical nutrition expertise, opportunities and initiatives through NNEdPro’s partnerships.

To be eligible for this assessment, please complete and purchase a certificate for at least 2 of the following courses:

Food as Medicine: Fertility and Pregnancy

Food as Medicine: Food and Inflammation

Food as Medicine: Food, Exercise and the Gut

Food as Medicine: Food and our Genome

Food as Medicine: Talking about Weight

What you will achieve

By the end of the microcredential, you’ll be able to...

  • Apply knowledge of nutrition and diet from completed Food as Medicine courses to a specific healthcare context.
  • Demonstrate the patient communication skills learned from completed Food as Medicine courses by preparing video responses to two different case studies.

Are you eligible for this microcredential?

To complete this professional certificate, you will need access to a digital camera, webcam or mobile device with a camera to record your two video responses. You will also need to create a Google Account and a YouTube channel to upload and share your videos with Monash for marking.

Please note, your video will not be searchable on YouTube or the Internet, and will only be viewable by the marker after you have submitted your YouTube URL to them.

Is this microcredential right for you?

This professional cert. is specifically for doctors and other healthcare professionals who are wanting to apply for membership of the International Academy of Nutrition Educators (IANE), and who have completed a minimum of two courses from the Using Food as Medicine in Healthcare Practice program and the Food as Medicine course. Places in this course are limited to 100, so please register early to avoid disappointment.

Melissa is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist involved in research and teaching at Monash, along with working in private practice. She specialises in nutritional genomics.

Gary is Professor and Head of Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food at Monash University. He is interested in dietary phytochemicals and health.
