This course developed a deeper understanding of how generic films relate to specific audiences. Based on their own experiences of film viewing, learners explored the reasons why generic films are so attractive to audiences as well as why writers and film makers so often produce generic stories. Learners explored a variety of genres, looking at the origins of specific genres, understanding how we recognise genres and how each genre offers different expectations of the stories they told.

  • Explore the ways in which the film industry uses the idea of genre in both the production and also the marketing of films.
