Skip to 0 minutes and 19 secondsIn previous videos, I was talking on how we can improve the quality of our scene if we pay attention to little details, like the background or the materials. Now we have our scene fully finished and we have all our objects on the scene, maybe we can improve a little bit further the quality of the scene if we apply some final FX to the image. So now we have our image, what we can do is take every single pixel of this image and apply a little process or algorithm to make it look more realistic.

Skip to 0 minutes and 49 secondsThese kind of FX that we apply to the final image, they are usually called post-production FX or post FX, and what they do is just take every single pixel of the image and apply some algorithm. So what I’m going to do right now is, I’m going to show you how we can improve this specific scene I have on the screen with some very basic post-processing FX. So, for instance, when we see at this scene, we can see that this area is very bright and this area is darker.

Skip to 1 minute and 17 secondsUsually when there is a very bright area close to a darker area, light tends to lit, light tends to trespass the area because of the way the light behaves inside the cameras and inside our eyes, and if we apply this FX to the image maybe we can give this the final look that makes this scene look more realistic. To do so I am going to apply an FX I have already created in the editor.

Skip to 1 minute and 46 secondsNow you can see that by applying this FX, I’m going to reduce a little bit the FX so you can see it better. Ok. So now you can see that the areas that are very bright, they are like glowing, and that’s not because the way we are rendering the surface of the object, but just the way we are handling the final image. So, usually we use post-processing FX to make the scene look more realistic, but we can also use these kind of FX to give it a more interesting look.

Skip to 2 minutes and 17 secondsFor instance, if I want, I can create a new FX, like for instance, let me, we can try to enhance the colours, if we want, by increasing the brightness or the contrast of the image, like this, or if we want to give it a more interesting look, we can try to apply some colour correction. I’m going to use an image, this one. So right now I’m changing the colours to give it more like an old-school camera look and feel. Or, if we want to go a little bit more extreme we can apply, I don’t know, some black and white FX.

Skip to 3 minutes and 4 secondsSo, by doing this kind of FX, we are changing the final look and feel of the image, and these kind of FX usually give the final touch to the scene that makes them look very very interesting. So always pay attention when you’re creating a scene that all the objects and all the properties of the materials and all the effects have to all go together to give the scene a very interesting look. So with this video I finish the second module, and in the next module we will talk more in-depth about how to code, and how to program inside 3D environments to create your own applications. Bye!
