Improving your English skills
There are lots of different ways you can work to improve your English if you need to.
Here are some suggestions:
Attend language classes. Lots of community centres and Further Education (FE) colleges offer English language classes. Some of them are free and some of them you will have to pay for. Search the internet for ESOL & the name of your local area, e.g. ESOL Birmingham. This will give you more information about classes available to you. Share any useful classes with the other people on this course.
There are lots of free online resources for learning English. These websites may be helpful for you:
- Language exchanges. There are probably people in the UK who want to learn your language. You can do an exchange – you teach them your language, and they teach you English. Do an internet search for language exchanges in your area.
Of course, the most important thing is to make sure that you use English every day by talking to people and being part of your local community. Try to find local events that you can join in to help you make friends and practice speaking in English. Local newspapers or Facebook groups can tell you what’s happening in your area.
