Introducing HELM Open - browse free to use RLOs
HELM Open is a repository of over 200 freely available reusable learning objects developed over the last 15 years. These cover a wide range of topics ranging from dementia to pharmacology.
The RLOs are the products of many creative storyboard workshops involving partners from all areas of healthcare and healthcare education. The repository is being used by millions of users world wide and many have provided us with feedback on which RLOs they are using. In this map you can see where particular clusters of RLOs are being used in different parts of the world.
In order to sustain a repository of this kind there are challenges in terms of the ever changing technologies to make sure E-learning resources work on different types of computers and mobile devices. It is impossible to completely ‘futureproof’ the RLOs however when designing an RLO there are some things you can do to extend the life of the RLO for as long as possible such as avoiding using hyperlinks or references in the body of the RLO, putting these at the end all in one place allows you to check and update them relatively easily.
Discussion point
- What topics or stories that you would you share with others as an RLO in a repository like HELM Open?’
