Welcome to the Introduction to Educational Design in Higher Education course. This course will help you to develop an understanding of the relationship between course objectives, learning outcomes, teaching and learning activities and assessment.
After completing this course you will be able to:
- describe established curriculum and learning design principles which support student learning in your context
- identify the role of constructive alignment and the principles of assessment and relate them to your context.
- compare and contrast learning design models
- apply an integrated model to (re)design components of a course of study aligned to a program.
Course syllabus and information
Week 1: Introduction to what is design and the various models that can influence course design in higher education.
Week 2: Focus on curriculum alignment of program and course learning outcomes so that there is more cohesive course delivery and student learning experience. Assessment design will be discussed as part of this alignment process.
The Introduction to Educational Design in Higher Education course is one of three (3) courses which are part of the program Foundations in University Learning & Teaching.
This program offers a pathway to gaining admission to the University of New South Wales’ Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching (GCULT). When you complete all three courses in the program and attain a Certificate of Achievement for each course, you will be eligible to join a final assessment course that leads to the admission of the university’s GCULT accredited program. GCULT is offered in a blended learning mode, through the School of Education, UNSW.
