Skip to 0 minutes and 6 secondsHello, and welcome to week two. Last week, we looked at the historical context of Magna Carta. We explored the events which led to the sealing of Magna Carta, and then we went on to look at what happened next. This week, we're going to think about how Magna Carta has inspired events through the ages and around the world. We'll start by looking at the United States and how the American Declaration of Independence was influenced by the principles of Magna Carta. Next, we'll go on to learn about the Chartists and the Suffragettes, two different movements in the UK, both of which fought for equality and for the right to vote.

Skip to 0 minutes and 54 secondsAnd finally, we'll look at freedom fighters who have been influenced by Magna Carta with particular reference to Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi. As usual, there will be plenty of opportunity for you to take part in discussions with other learners in the course. So please, feel free to ask questions and share your ideas.
