Game Finance, or GameFi, combines elements of blockchain technology, decentralised finance (DeFi), and gaming to create innovative business models and opportunities.
This five-week course from RMIT University provides a comprehensive overview of developments in GameFi. From the fundamentals of gaming in the era of Web3 to the uses of gaming technology within finance, you’ll gain the knowledge you need to navigate an exciting new financial landscape.
Examine the specificities of Web3 gaming
The course will start with an overview of gaming in Web3. You’ll learn how the latest digital technologies have influenced gaming, and what the advantages of these developments are for both gaming and finance.
You’ll also take a detailed look at two examples of Web3 games, Illuvium and Axie Infinity.
Understand the role of blockchain in gaming and GameFi
In the middle two weeks of the course, you’ll explore a range of cutting-edge digital developments transforming gaming, finance, and GameFi. Almost all of these developments are powered by blockchain.
From smart contracts and NFTs to decentralised finance and DAOs, you’ll cover crucial new technologies and their applications within GameFi.
Look to the future of GameFi in the metaverse and beyond
Once you’ve surveyed the lay of the land in Web3 Game Finance, you’ll begin looking towards the future of the field.
You’ll discuss how GameFi business models could transform our approach to finance, and how the development of the metaverse could revolutionise things again. You’ll also explore the gamification of areas beyond finance, including e-commerce.
Whether you’re an avid gamer or an aspiring finance professional, you’ll finish the course with the expertise you need to become a GameFi pioneer.

Who is the course for?
This course is designed for anyone interested in learning more about Web3, Game Finance, and the business opportunities offered by both.
To get the most out of this course, learners will need a basic understanding of blockchain technology, and an active interest in gaming, gamification and/or finance.
Who will you learn with?
Hieu Thai received hid PhD in Mathematics in Wayne State University, USA (2020). He works in both industry and academics. His experience includes blockchain, AI, higher education and Edtech.
Tam is Associate Lecturer of Blockchain Enabled Business at RMIT Vietnam. She is an experienced educator & PhD candidate in Industrial Economics. Her current research interest is in Digital Economy.
Dr. Minh Nguyen is a lecturer at Blockchain Enabled Business at RMIT Vietnam. His interest research areas include human behaviours, management, entrepreneurship, cyber security and blockchain topics.
Head of Learning for RMIT Digital3, Stuart is an established university learning and teaching leader, an experienced senior educator, and is an active researcher and advisor in the digital economy.
