On this interactive five-week course from ChinesePlus, you’ll continue to build a solid foundation of the Chinese language to use in everyday situations.
Develop your knowledge of Pinyin, the Chinese phonetic system
As you progress, you’ll develop your phonetic knowledge of Pinyin by practising the stress in disyllabic, trisyllabic, and quadrisyllabic words, improving your fluency and becoming proficient with the stress in a sentence.
Explore Chinese characters and the Chinese writing system
Learning both Pinyin and the Chinese writing system together can help you overcome the challenges of connecting the written Chinese characters with their corresponding sounds.
This course guides you through both the phonetic system and writing system, side-by-side, allowing you to master your pronunciation and character writing alongside your language learning throughout this course.
Discover useful Chinese phrases and greetings and basic Chinese grammar
Each week, you’ll explore different language points, learning everyday phrases to help you communicate useful information. From talking about travel plans and your favourite sports to acknowledging someone’s birthday and passing on a message, you’ll build up a linguistic repertoire of useful Chinese phrases.
To further help you communicate in Chinese, you’ll also develop your understanding of Chinese grammar, including how to use the adverb of degree, the adverb of time, and different sentence structures.

Week 1

Today we will talk about travel plan, and how to say I want to do something in Chinese and its negative form.
What sport do you like
Let's learn the expressions of how to ask and answer about “what kind of sports do you like” and send invitation of doing sports together.
We should buy some new chairs
Let's learn how to express an approximate number by using 几 and多.
There is a cat under the table
Let's talk about this pretty cat and see how old it is.
Pinyin and Characters
This week you will practise 2 different stress structures of words with two syllables. For writing, you will learn 2 basic strokes; 2 characters: 为and也; and 2 Chinese radicals: 王字旁 and 足字旁.
Week 1 Summary
In this week you learnt how to talk about travel plan and sports and express approximate numbers. Also the stress patterns of words with two syllables. And get to know the two basic strokes with 2 characters and 2 radicals.
Week 2
I get up at six every day
What time do you get up
What time do you get up or doing sports? People often talk about our daily habits in interpersonal communication. Today we will start with the daily routine expressions.
Did you take your medicine
Sometimes people do get sick due to the weather, so today we will learn how to express your concern about your friends who was sick.
How tall is he
When you want to describe someone, what aspects do you think about? Age, height, relationship to you, etc. That is what we are going to focus on today.
He has been busy lately
We have learnt how to describe some basic information of a person such as the age, 多大, the height, 多高. Today we will go on with how to describe someone’s status.
Pinyin and Characters
Today we are going to see the stress patterns of words with three syllables. You will also learn two basic strokes of Chinese character, 2 Chinese characters and 2 radicals.

This week you have learnt the daily routine; expressions of showing concern and describing a person; you practised the stress patterns of words with three syllables; you also learnt 2 strokes, 2 characters and 2 radicals.

Today we will learn how to describe something’s ownership and price.
Let me see, it's the milkman
We have learnt how to express ownership with “的”and price over 1000 with “多”. Today we will keep going with the “的” structure.

Today we will focus on how to describe an item, such as colour and location.
Have you seen my cup
We have already learnt how to describe the position, ownership, color, price of an item. So today we will try to describe something with all the expressions we have learnt recently.

You will practise the stress patterns of words with four syllables; for writing part, you will learn how to write three new characters, two stroke orders and two radicals.
Week 3 Summary
This week you have learnt how to describe an item; the expression with “一下”. Also the stress the stress patterns of words with four syllables; 3 new characters, 2 strokes and 2 radicals.

If you want to speak Chinese like a native speaker, the stresses in sentences are also important. Today we will learn how to do it. You will also learn 3 new characters, 2 strokes and 2 radicals.
Week 4 Summary
This week you have learnt talk about birthday celebrations; how to pass on a message to others; describing a time point; the expressions about job topics; the stresses in sentences; and 2 strokes, 3 characters and 2 radicals.

Do you feel nervous when an exam is coming? In this dialogue we will talk about exams.
Too much coffee is bad for our health
Do you prefer coffee or tea in the morning? How many cups of coffee or tea do you have every day? Let's talk about having a drink.
Pinyin and Characters
For Pinyin, Let’s have a look at the stress on attributive phrases first. Then we will learn how to write two new characters and two radicals.
Week 5 Summary
This week you have learnt the expressions about the dinner and drinks topics, clothes shopping and exam; You practised the stresses in sentences on attributive phrases; and learnt 2 characters and 2 radicals.
