    • Getting started

      In this week we'll begin by looking at the aspects of people management that you find most rewarding and most difficult.

    • First steps in management

      We'll take a look at some of the fundamental aspects of managing a team including prioritising, delegating and developing trust

    • Your management style

      In this activity we'll look at the different approaches to management and how you can adapt your style to suit different situations and employee needs.

  • Week 2

    From 18 May 2020

    How do you find the best people?

    • The labour market

      This week we'll be looking at how we find the best people for our team. First let's look at the labour market and the different factors that might affect your organisation.

    • Looking at recruitment

      Now let's explore the recruitment process from writing job descriptions to looking at CVs as well as looking ahead to succession planning

    • Inductions

      Finally let's take a look at the role of the manager after they’ve hired their new employee and how they can make the introduction as smooth as possible.

  • Week 3

    From 25 May 2020

    How do you develop your team?

    • Thinking about team development

      This week we're looking at learning and development. First we'll discuss the benefits of developing your people and the ways in which you can establish their development needs

    • How do we develop people?

      In this activity we'll look at the many different routes available for developing your people

    • Coaching your team

      We take a closer look at one of the fundamental learning tools every manager has: coaching

  • Week 4

    From 1 Jun 2020

    How do you manage performance?

    • Performance management

      What does good and bad performance management look like? We'll explore some scenarios and discuss top tips for encouraging effective performance.

    • Setting goals and objectives

      In this activity we’ll look in more detail at how people managers can work with their team to set effective goals and objectives for performance management.

    • Managing conflict

      Now let's take a closer look at a manager’s role in handling conflict and the steps they can take to resolve disputes.

  • Week 5

    From 8 Jun 2020

    How do you maintain a healthy workforce?

    • Why think about well-being?

      This week we'll be exploring well-being, starting with the business case for well-being and your role in maintaining well-being within your team.

    • Managing absence

      In this activity we'll look at the impact of absence and a manager’s role in managing the absence of their team.

    • Returning to work

      Next we’ll look at the importance of good returning to work plans and offer tips on how to make them most effective.

    • Managing stress

      We take a look a closer look at an issue affecting more and more people in the workplace: stress

    • People Management Skills: final thoughts

      We take a look back at what we've covered over the last five weeks
