Welcome to Understanding Ramon Llull: ​Philosophy, Arts and Science through the Ars combinatoria.

The course will last two weeks and each week is divided in two activities. For every activity you will find videos and some quizzes relating to them. The quizzes are not compulsory work for you; they are just there to help you learn, and we advise you to do them. You’ll also find links at the end of each week if you want to learn more in depth, or want to keep at hand some open web resources related to this course.

Course themes

The ideas of movement, relation, combination and web underlie the contents of this course. They expose the link between the medieval world and the contemporary one, as well as the connections among philosophy, arts and science.

This is a multidisciplinary course that highlights the richness of Ramon Llull’s logical method and its legacy. The course is inspired by the exhibition on Llull’s Ars combinatoria on show in the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB):
