On this four-week course from Bloomsbury Academic and authors V. Ann Paulins and Julie L. Hillery, you’ll delve into corporate culture to understand what it is, how it affects business decisions, and how it can be used to promote productivity and a positive company image.

Understand how corporate culture affects job satisfaction

As you explore the role of corporate culture, you’ll understand how it influences the workplace environment, employee satisfaction, and productivity.

You’ll be able to explain the factors that affect corporate culture, and how these in turn affect job satisfaction.

Discover the importance of company values

With a firm understanding of corporate culture, you’ll explore the importance of company values.

You’ll evaluate how a company mission statement reflects the company values and corporate culture, and identify the relationship between corporate culture and corporate social responsibility.

With this understanding, you’ll be able to explain how these practices affect decision-making within a business.

Explore ethics in the workplace relating to fashion and retail

Finally, you’ll identify the role of ethics in the workplace. You’ll explore how ethical decisions can affect workplace positivity and productivity and start to unpack the variety of ethical workplace issues relevant to the fashion and retail industry.

With this knowledge, you’ll learn how to approach workplace ethical dilemmas to achieve appropriate and optimal outcomes.

  • Week 1

    Corporate culture: Part 1

    • Course welcome

      In this activity, you will be introduced to the content that will be covered during this course. You will also get an overview of the topics covered during the first week of this course.

    • Corporate culture

      In this activity, we will learn about corporate culture, the modern trends associated with it, and ethics pertaining to corporate culture.

    • Company mission and vision

      In this activity, we explore what makes a good mission and vision statement for a company.

    • Making decisions that involve workplace environment

      In this activity, we look at some specific factors companies consider in setting policies and wages, which ultimately define their corporate culture and the work environment.

    • Environment of the workplace

      The focus of this activity is how the environment at any workplace is affected by many factors including the interaction among employees, the physical workspace, and employee perks.

    • Week wrap up

      In this activity, you will have the opportunity to test your knowledge of the topics covered during the week. You will also be provided with a summary of the week's learning, and some insight on what to expect in the new week.

  • Week 2

    Corporate culture: Part 2

    • Weekly welcome

      Moving into the second week of this course, this activity will give you an overview of the topics that will be covered during this week.

    • Ethical responsibilities to others

      This activity focuses on the ethical responsibilities we as humans have towards one another and all living things, particularly ethics in the news and industry.

    • Fashion and the environment

      The focus of this activity will be ethical responsibility and issues in the natural environment and methods in which we can preserve and pioneer human and environmental causes.

    • Policies governing vendor behavior and relationships

      This activity will focus on policies governing vendor behavior and relationships, here will explore inhumane working conditions in some of the vendors of some high-profile companies.

    • Real-world cases

      In this activity, we focus on case studies which provide insight into sustainable practices, positive work environments, and how this culture is created.

    • Week wrap up

      In this activity, you will have the opportunity to test your knowledge of the topics covered during the week. You will also be provided with a summary of the week's learning, and some insight on what to expect in the new week.

  • Week 3

    Management, supervision, and workplace issues: Part 1

    • Weekly welcome

      Moving into the third week of this course, this activity will give you an overview of the topics that will be covered during this week.

    • Introduction to ethical behavior at work

      This activity examines the challenges facing young professionals as well as the many ethical issues the corporate world will introduce.

    • Corporate codes of ethics

      In this activity, you will learn about the code of ethics developed by major retailers and the important role it plays in providing guidelines to employees around making ethical decisions and behaviors that are forbidden.

    • Week wrap up

      In this activity, you will have the opportunity to test your knowledge of the topics covered during the week. You will also be provided with a summary of the week's learning, and some insight on what to expect in the new week.

  • Week 4

    Management, supervision, and workplace issues: Part 2

    • Weekly welcome

      Moving into the fourth and final week of this course, this activity will give you an overview of the topics that will be covered during this week.

    • Current issues in workplace ethics: Part 1

      This activity explores two of the major workplace issues that still continue to be at the forefront today: workplace bullying, and sexual harassment.

    • Current issues in workplace ethics: Part 2

      In this activity, we explore the third major workplace issues that still continue to be at the forefront today, namely appearance/weight issues.

    • Real-world cases

      In this activity, we look at a case study to learn how unethical behavior can occur at all levels of a company for a substantial period of time, without anyone reporting it.

    • Course wrap up

      In this activity, you will have the opportunity to test your knowledge of the topics covered during the week. You will also be provided with a summary of the week's learning, and some insight into other courses in this series.
