Other than the postgraduate two-year training program, there are also CPD programs in Taiwan that aims at resident pharmacists. Chiang will be elaborating more about them in this step.

Key points

The residency program for the new six-year graduates serves spans over two years, the first year is distributive and second year is clinical. This form of allocation familiarizes with the graduates with the hospital setting before they cooperate with the medical team in the second year. The residents in this program, can rotate through other hospitals since this is a cooperative exchange program.

The hospital pharmacist advancement program in Taiwan was started in 2011. It is an advancement ladder for hospital pharmacists. The pharmacists’ ladder is divided into P1, P2, P3, P4.

The tiers:

  • P1-3: Evaluated by the department of pharmacy of individual hospitals

  • P4: Evaluated and recognized by TSHP

  • P1: Focus on seniority and professional competency

  • P2: Teaching competency

  • P3/4: Management competency

Traditional Chinese medicine related course is required if the pharmacist wishes to dispense traditional medicine. They need to attend a 16 credit hours course including the overview, the pentalogy, formulaology, Chinese medicine herbs preparation and Pharmacognosy.
