This chapter explores how data, rather than algorithms alone, drives the success of modern artificial intelligence. It examines the critical role of data quantity, quality, and diversity in developing Korean natural language processing (NLP) systems. The session highlights Korea’s specialized AI models -KoGPT, Clova, and KorBERT- which address linguistic challenges such as agglutinative grammar, honorifics, and context-dependence. Through these examples, the lecture illustrates how large-scale, high-quality Korean datasets enable AI to achieve natural, culturally aware, and practical language use in real-world applications.
