Alternative way to collect and submit exercise

For some reason, VSCode may not able to open or submit assignments. To deal with this, we provide here an alternative way. This can be done with the GitHub Desktop to fetch from and push directly to your repository created when you click on the assignment link. This also allows using IDEs other than VSCode.

You will need to install the GitHub Desktop application and log in. After you have accepted the assignment, you will see the following page. The HTTPS link is where your assignment is deposited. Click this link brings you to github.com, as the following picture shows. Clicking the “Open with GitHub Desktop” under the tab “Code” opens the GitHub Desktop application and clones the repo to your local driver. Then you can work on the exercise with your favourite IDE or VSCode.

After you have finished your exercise, return to GitHub Desktop and commit your change (fill in the summary if necessary).

Then clicking “push origin” will push your change to GitHub for auto-grading.

To see your mark, you will need to go to your repository on github.com (the same HTTP link). The green check in the following shows that you have successfully passed the test. If a red cross shows, click on the cross and then “detail” will show the error message such as the following two pictures.
